Calais

Calais (CAL-us), was named for the  French city with the same spelling (yet the pronunciation is quite different) due to the similarities in location.  At the center of the St. Croix River Valley, it enjoys 4,000 residents, a technical college well known for marine-oriented programs, as well as, lying directly across the river from St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada.  Calais is the fifth busiest port of entry to the United States on the Canadian border.
